Happiness and the present moment

On a narrow road amidst the crowd of people and bicycles in Beijing Dr. John Blofeld strolled along with a group of international students contemplating on the beauty of the present moment. He drew our attention to a drop of oil on the road which reflects a myriad of dancing rainbow colors. He said Tao is like that - simple and serene, harmonious and peaceful. And that is the way things are.

Today's Happiness conference brought me back to that happy memory, 23 years ago. I feel grateful to this great teacher who opened my eyes to see the world, to appreciate little things in life, to be attentive to the present moment, and to be happy by living in accordance with nature. I have no doubt that what I am doing now including organizing this happy conference is influenced by the encounters with him.
