Happiness in Indian Philosophy

There is no equivalent term for happiness in the Veda. The closest one is "ananda," meaning "satisfaction," "delight". It's also related to "blessing," which means what we choose (by asking for), rather than what is given. To understand the meaning of happiness, one needs to take "dharma" into account. As Prapod remarks: if everything is in equilibrium, in accordance with dharma, happiness arises...
